"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character...
by digderidoo in...in all fiction:jealous and proud of it; petty, unjust, unforgiving, control freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty, ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevent bully.
", says richard dawkins in the god delusion p51.
he goes on to say, "those of us schooled from infancy in his ways can become desensitized to their horror".. would you agree?.

seeds of doubt
by jacethespace inwhen out in field service circus did you ever speak to an householder who made you question whether this was the truth rather than you getting them to think about what you were saying?or what other things did you see that made you wonder if this is gods org?or convinced you it couldnt be?.
i remember one householder i visited one saturday morning and i started my usual door to door message offering the watchtower and awake but the guy i spoke to seemed to have a good understanding of history and religion and said " we dont want to go back to becoming slaves again like in the past ".and ive never forgot that person and what he said it really made me think about who i might actually be slaving for.. i also started to doubt when some out in field circus left peoples houses saying " if they die at armaggedon its there own fault " and i often used to think how the householder would feel if they heard some of the comments made about them, they would probably never open the door again to jws so much for not stumbling weak ones.. i also know some jws who always boasted about counting their time as soon as they jumped on the bus to the hall for field circus and offered a tract or a dose of anthrax magazine.. other times i was working with an elder who admitted to me that he admired spiritual people cause he didnt feel he was spiritual and felt materalistic which i thought was sad.the same elder told me he didnt think " the truth" could help with everything so much for appointed elders being qualified.. these things and many others just fueled my doubts about jehovahs loving.
but no its not the watchtower its satan and the demons out ta.... getchaa..

Definition of a Fundamentalist
by outnfree ini subscribe to something called monday9am.tv - short films and stories about life and the human spirit (found at http://www.monday9am.tv/) and wanted to share the definition of a fundamentalist given in today's film short by author seth godin: .
"a fundamentalist is person who considers whether a fact is acceptable to their faith before they explore it.
he contrasts this with a curious person, which he defines as one who "explores first, and then considers whether or not they want to consider the ramifications.

They Can't Admit They're Wrong ...
by compound complex inas 1975 approached, we began to hear the preliminary murmurs of denial from the society rather than any honest admissions or apologies for their dreadful mistake.
finally, i remember sitting at the watchtower study one sunday listening to the brothers and sisters parroting the information from the study article and innocently taking all of the blame for misinterpreting what the society had said about 1975. it was the first of several occasions when i longed to jump up from my seat, run to the podium, and argue for the apparently forgotten truth.
instead, i sat there and thought how much the society was like the scribes and pharisees in jesus dayburdening the people with heavy loads that they were not willing to budge with their finger (matthew 23:4).

Were Adam and Eve the only humans created?
by heyfea inmy husband asked me a questions that kind of stumped me for a moment.
he asked, in genesis, when cain killed abel, and god, as punishment cursed him and drove him from the land, making him a restless wanderer, why did cain say to god that the punishment was too hard; that anyone who found him would kill him?
who was going to kill him?

Who did you/do you want to be when you grew up?
by Crumpet inwhen i was 9 i wanted to be daisy duke from the dukes of hazzard, but had to put aside the dream when i realised my legs weren't going to ever get any longer.. when i was 12 i wanted to be ghandi, but realised wars wouldnt stop because i missed breakfast.. when i was 16 i decided that by leaving the borg and living fast and hard enough being alice cooper was achievable.. now i'm 32 i think i'd quite like to have the sensuous, striking confidence and certainty of helen mirren when i grow up.. who did you want to be and why?.
